Many people are wondering if they should get the swine flu vaccine and worry about side effects. Here is the latest information to help with these important questions.

The swine flu is a new virus and many government bodies around the world are recommending getting the H1N1 influenza vaccine to protect against getting sick. But many people have questions when it comes to getting the swine flu vaccine, and some of the big ones include whether to get a vaccine or not and what are the side effects from getting a swine flu vaccine.

In the United States, people who want to get an H1N1 flu vaccine can choose between getting an injection or a nasal spray. Read on to find about the side effects for both forms of vaccination.

Swine Flu Vaccine Side Effects for Shot

It’s expected that side effects for the H1N1 flu vaccine shot will be much like the ones experienced when getting a seasonal influenza vaccine shot. For the shot form of the vaccine, the side effects can include the following mild symptoms:

  • Headache
  • Fatigue for several days after
  • Fever
  • Muscle aches
  • Nausea
  • Redness, soreness, swelling or tenderness near injection site
  • Fainting (mainly with teens)

The 2009 H1N1 vaccine that is given by injection has a form of the virus that has been killed, so it’s not possible to get influenza from the shot.

What are the Side Effects of the H1N1 Flu Nasal Vaccine?

The expected side effects for the nasal spray form of the swine flu vaccine vary from children to adults. Kids and teens ages two to 17 have reported some of the following mild symptoms:

  • Cough
  • Headache
  • Fever
  • Muscle aches
  • Nasal congestion
  • Runny nose
  • Stomach pain
  • Vomiting/Diarrhea
  • Wheezing

Adults aged 18 to 49 years have reported some of the following symptoms:

  • Cough
  • Chills
  • Headache
  • Tiredness/Weakness

The nasal vaccine is not being recommended for everyone and has not been approved for pregnant women. People who are healthy and between the ages of two to 49 years old are generally considered good candidates for this nasal spray swine flu vaccine.

Possibility of Severe Side Effects to Swine Flu Vaccine

Severe side effects after getting a vaccine are considered very rare. If they do happen, it’s usually within minutes to hours after receiving the shot. It should also be noted that back in 1976, there was a version of the swine flu vaccine that was linked with people getting Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS). Studies have been done since that date and a clear association between flu vaccines and GBS has not been found.

There is a risk for a severe allergic reaction with just about every product people use. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says that the risk of dying or becoming extremely ill is very minute from getting a flu vaccination.

Some people may have allergies or conditions that put them at risk for more serious side effects; read Who Should Get the H1N1 Vaccine? for more details. More information can also be found at Swine Flu Facts and Swine Flu Vaccine in the US.

My eight year old sister has showed of the following sign from the swine flu vaccination:
-headache
-fatigue
-fever
-nasusea
-and fainting constantly
Personally I am deeply concerned for my sister's well-being. I am scared for her life. She is only eight years old and has been in and out of the hospital for over a week now. She was diagnosed with swine flu friday, october 30, after getting the H1-N1 vaccinnatio. She was a canadiate for the H1-N1 nasal spray because of her asthma. I am 16 years old and i have no idea how my little sister is makeing it through the day. She may also be diagnosed with ba heart disease i am deeply concerned and i believe that the rest of our american government should be too.

Thank you for sharing your personal experience about how swine flu has impacted you and your family. When someone gets very sick in the family it can be a very difficult and worrisome time. I send positive thoughts for your sister to recover as soon as she can.
The swine flu vaccine does cause side effects for people as you have listed here, although fainting is more common in adolescents. The vaccine also does not offer protection right away, it takes about 10 days for a person to build up immunity against the H1N1 virus, so it is possible for someone who got the shot to still get the swine flu within that time period. And if someone has underlying medical conditions, the vaccine doesn’t work as well for that person.
Also, in the US and Canada, kids from the age of six months to nine years of age are recommended to get two doses of the vaccine and the doses have to be spaced apart at least three weeks. It’s possible for children to get the swine flu, although it’s thought to be to a lesser extent, during this wait time for the second shot.
I am not sure if your sister was given the nasal spray version of the vaccine or not. According to The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, people with long-term conditions like asthma are NOT recommended to get the nasal spray.

My wife aged 62 years was vaccinated on 05/11/09 (one day ago) This morning she observed mild bleeding from her genital area. Could this be due to vaccination against H1N1?

In my research to write my article on the side effects of the 2009 H1N1 flu vaccine, I did not read anywhere about the vaccine causing any bleeding to the genital area. I would suggest going to see a doctor about that.

My two year old daughter recieved the H1N1 nasal vaccine a week ago and is now covered in a rash. Is it possible that this is a side effect from it? She has not had any other symptoms and niether has her brother who also got the vaccine.

My boyfriend (17) got the Flu shot last week on Saturday. It has been almost a week since then and he is constantly feeling tired and weak, sleeping longer and longer each day. I've urged him to go check it out with the doctor, but he believes nothing is wrong. Is there a reason he has been feeling so tired and fatigued recently? He is not part of any sports team, and has not done any extraneous activity since the shot. I know fatigue is a side effect, but one lasting a week? Please help me... thank you.

Can the nasal spray cause bleeding in your nose? Just received the H1N1 nasal spray vaccine about 1 1/2 ago and my nose just started bleeding. Should I be concerned about this? I haven't read this to be a side effect of the vaccine.

Since the vaccine is not effective in the first 10 days a person can still get sick in that period. Will this person though experience slightly milder symptoms because the vaccine has begun to work? Or, on the contrary, would it make things worse because the vaccine weakens the immune system in those first days?

To Parent of Two-Year-Old Daughter,
To be on the safe side with someone so young, I would go see a doctor as soon as you can and tell him/her about when your daughter got the shot and the symptoms that followed. According to the CDC the signs of a severe allergic reaction to the swine flu vaccine in nasal spray form can include “difficulty breathing, hoarseness or wheezing, HIVES, paleness, weakness, a fast heart beat or dizziness.” Her rash might be from something else, but it’s good to get it checked out, just in case.

Tami Nicholson :
Dear Worried Girlfriend,
After getting the 2009 H1N1 vaccine, most side effects from it should only last for about 1 to 2 days, fatigue maybe a little longer. Generally, a person should be feeling better as the days go by since getting the shot, not worse. Your boyfriend’s condition may or may not be related to getting the shot, but it would be best for him to visit a doctor. Tell him it would be a nice early birthday/Christmas present for him to go to a clinic or see his doctor.

To Guest with nose bleed after getting H1N1 nasal spray vaccine,

I found nothing about a nose bleed as a side effect with regards to getting the H1N1 nasal spray vaccine. Runny nose and nasal congestion are what the CDC site and MedImmune LLC (the makers of the H1N1 flu vaccine nasal spray in the US) on their information page about their product have to say are side effects from it. There was nothing about a bleeding nose. I’d be inclined to talk with a doctor about it, just for peace of mind.

Tami Nicholson :
Immunity Guest,
My understanding is that your body is slowly building up immunity over the 10-day period. So maybe the day after the shot your body has hardly any immunity, but by day 5 your body would have built up some protection - it’s just not up to its full potential until day 10 (and these 10 days are an average, the process could be faster or slower depending on the person).
Each person is different for how their body will react to getting the swine flu, some might only get mild symptoms anyway without the vaccine, while others would have reacted more severely.
But, basically getting the 2009 H1N1 vaccine should not make things any worse for you if you get the H1N1 flu before the 10 days are up for the vaccine to fully kick in. The shot should actually provide some protection, particularly if the person gets the swine flu nearer the end of the 10-day period.

Thanks for posting how the swine flu vaccine affected you. That’s the thing with both getting the vaccine or getting the swine flu, although the health authorities can come up with general guidelines of symptoms and side effects, it’s all based on averages and each person’s body is going to respond in its own way. Hope everything is ok, and glad to hear you talked to the doctor as soon as you noticed your sugar levels spiking.

I received the vaccine almost two weeks ago and almost immediately started getting sore legs (numb and tingling). Over the last two weeks, these symptoms became worse and my legs have been really sore, weak and sensitive to touch (almost like shingles on my legs). My doctor says it is not serious and needs to pass. For how long??? I have already missed a week of work. My son and husband were fine with the shot. My bones still ache and it is even difficult to type (sore in the fingers and arm). No other symptoms (no fever etc.)
I must be the one and a million (the doctors also say it is not gullian bare syndrome).

I am an intensive care nurse who has recently been incontact with H1N1 patients. Due to this i decided to have the vaccine. Almost exactly 24 post injection i became unwell, general malaise, nausea and dizziness. Over the following two hours my symptoms worsened my temp went to 39.1 and I was visibly shaking. I felt like I had been run over by a truck, my neck especially was sore. I did experiance some palpatations but i assume that was pyrexia related and they only lasted half an hour or so. My symtoms had all but disappeared 12 hours after the first onset and totally gone by 24 hours. Three days on my arm still hurts an is swollen and red. I know this must have been a bad reation and im just not sure if i would have it again. I have seen how ill swine flu can make you and its serious i just wanted to post this note, not to put people off but to make them aware of the side effects. Maybe best lie low for the next couple of days post jab and make sure you are with some one if you become unwell.

I have to turn in paperwork today for my son, 5 yrs old, to receive the first portion of the Swine Flu Shot at school. I am extremely skeptical about this. I've read good things and bad. I'm not sure what to do. I know a child who received the shot and has NO feeling on her entire left side. I've read about the mercury levels in the shot. I've read about a girl that can no longer walk forward after having the shot. My son is a pretty healthy fellow, but I do not want him to end up with some strange side effect due to the shot. I know it is one in a million, but what if that is my son. When do they expect the "major" outbreak to be? Do they think it has already occurred? Do they think it will get worse throughout the winter? I just have so many questions, and I am just honestly not sure what to do.

There is so much information about the swine flu out there right now that it can be overwhelming. It’s a hard decision for many parents to make. You have to weigh the risk of getting the shot and related possible side effects to the risk of your child possibly getting the swine flu and related possible complications. I’d say the best bet is to talk with your doctor about it. Hopefully you have a good relationship with your doctor and he or she would know about your child’s medical history to advise you on the best course of action.

I have researched information for myself and to share with others, to help people in their decision-making process. If anyone has or their child has any kind of ongoing medical condition, talking to one’s doctor is the best step.

i recived my swineflu jab yesterday 23/11/09 i felt ok, but my arm where i had the injection feels very sore and achy. today i feel like i got no energy, tingerling in my thigh which i had after i recieved the seasonal flu jab. i phoned my NHS helpline and they told me that the worst you feel after the jab the better has your immunity is fighing it. my 6 year old son who's got autism has got hi jab next week. it has put mein two minds, but if he doesnt have the swine flu jab then catch the swine flu he might be very ill. so i will let him have the jab. hes recieving a different vaccine brand than me, im worried that i will have Guillain-Barr'e syndrome now. but like with every vaccine u got to make a choice and i hope ive made a right one. i dont know how u in the US are finding the vaccine, but in the uk the majorety of the population dont want the swine flu vaccine.

I received the vaccine yesterday at the school I work for. For quite a while I believed I would never get the vaccine because I didn't think the risks were worth it. Well, a few close co-workers got the swine flu and after hearing how completely miserable they were (thinking they were going to die), I decided to take my chances. I don't want to be severely sick for 5 days or longer. I have kids to take care of and I'm in grad school. I will not vaccinate my children- my son has had the flu already (not sure if it was swine or seasonal) and my daughter is sensitive to everything so I won't take the chance for her. Today I feel fine after getting the shot and I hope I stay this way! I live in the USA, and a lot of my friends and relatives don't want the shot, though... lots of people think it's propaganda and that the gov't is trying to scare us.

I am 8 wkd pregnant and it was recommended that I had the jab. I was already suffering from dizziness & nausea and since having it Monday I've had sickness, amazing dizziness and stomach cramps. Because of the baby I can'thave any medication for the symptoms so just had to bear it out. I have been so miserable and completely regret having the jab. My doctor thinks the combination of pregnancy and the jab caused the problems.

e? i am convinced that my family allready had a version of swine flu. i am very careful about using hand gel, lysol, oust etc. none of us ran a fever: yet we looked like death warmed over for about a week to two weeks. my older daughter and i were told we look aweful. no fever! i once had strep and mono at the same time. i felt worse with this infection. you dont usually go to the doctor and get met with a mask for normal flu. her doctor gave her a shot for normal flu when she had over 101 fever.

Everyone is going on about side effects of the swine flu vaccination. Can I say that off course some individuals are going to get side effects. people can get side effects from taking something as simple as Asprin. The side effects that are the most concerning are the ones that may become apparent in 1 year or 5 years.
The adjuvent squalene has some very worrying information surrounding it, it is banned in some countries. I have an underlying health condition, and a 3 year old, and there is no way I would vaccinate myself or my child.
I am a health care professional and I am going to take my chances.

I work for social services and was given the jab through work. I got the vacine on Wednesday 27th and by Friday I felt tired. Saturday I was told to go to call an Ambulance as i needed hospital traetment. I then spoke to NHS direct who informed me that some people have allergic reactions and as i have had some allergies to medication i should not have been given the vaccination . I declared all information on my form, including all prior allergies.
I would not advice any of my family to have the vaccine, i think it is unsafe. It has given me full blown swine flu symtoms.
I think your GP should work closely with their patients and advice on an individual basis.

My 5 year old son had the nasal H1N1 vaccine on 11/20/2009, exactly a week after he started having uncontrolable twitching in his legs followed by headaches. My husband & I rushed him to the ER & he had blood test & a ct scan of the head. All came out negative. I strongly believe the vaccine affected him. This vaccine contains mercury & that is dangerous!!! I regret not going with my instincts of him not getting it, but rather listen to the pediatrician. My sister spoke to a friend who is a nurse & she told her that my son could very well be having a reaction due to the vaccine. 1 in 100 kids due suffer some sort of complication after the vaccine is administered. My son will not be getting the second dose... There are some interesting facts about the vaccine on you tube. One doctor stated he would not under any circumstance have his children take it. As he is more concerned of the effect the vaccine may have, than the actual swine flu. I just wish I would have researched this better.

Dear Baffled in Tampa,

My understanding from reading information put out by the US and Canadian government is that typical reactions to the swine flu vaccine should happen after having the shot and last for one or two days and peter off. For most people, it should take about 10 days to develop immunity, but this number is an average. It is most likely NOT a delayed reaction to the vaccine that you got, it is more likely that you did get some sort of flu. The good thing about having the swine flu vaccine is that even if you have not developed full immunity, you will have built up some and it means that you will not have as severe symptoms with the flu as you might have had otherwise.

To Parent of 5-year-old Who Had Swine Flu Nasal Spray Vaccine,
Thanks for sharing your experience and I hope your son is better now. I think it’s hard to make a decision about getting the swine flu vaccine for people all over the world. I think there are good arguments both ways and parents just have to make the best decision they can with the information they have. I think the hard part about it is that we just can’t predict how our children will react to getting the virus or to the vaccine and we want to do our best to protect them. Most people don’t have a severe reaction to the vaccine, but it is still a possibility.
Dec 4, 2009 4:08 PM
Tami Nicholson :
To Numbness in My Left Hand,
Usually people react soon after the swine flu shot, with symptoms lasting for one to two days. For the Canadian swine flu vaccine, the government of Canada has listed tingling or numbness of the hands of feet as a symptom, but one that is considered uncommon (0.1% to 1%). Because you are having the symptoms more than two days after getting the swine flu vaccine and because this reaction is not typical, I would go see a doctor.
Dec 4, 2009 4:09 PM
Tami Nicholson :
To Kelly Saunters,
If your child did indeed have the swine flu (you can ask your doctor to test to see if she had it), then she would not need to have a second swine flu vaccine shot. She has already developed immunity from having the swine flu itself. My understanding is that once an adult gets the swine flu vaccine, it takes about 10 days for them to develop immunity against the virus. But this is an average, for some people could be less time or more time. Particularly for people with chronic health conditions or other medical issues it could take a longer time to develop immunity. For kids who need to have two shots (and they need to be at least 21 days apart), that means they are still able to get the swine flu while they are waiting for the second shot. The positive thing about getting the first shot is that it means the child will not get a full-blown case of swine flu because they have developed some immunity against the virus. I hope your daughter is doing better now.

Having hallucinations is not a normal reaction to the swine flu vaccine, and coupled with the high fever, definitely go see a doctor as soon as possible.

I've been reading everybodys story an the things some people are going through.i thought that the worst symptoms would acure within the first 24hrs but as i read the story now i feel concern about other symptoms that may accure. should i be scared for my children i just wish i never got the shot an to think i put my kids at risk. i wish i would have read more into detail about the shot before i decided to give my children the shot.

I took the H1N1 and the seasonal all at once, yesterday. I felt fine, rested and OK, a day later I feel I was hit by a Mack truck. No energy, I am sweating like a pig and just want to lay down and/or sleep. I have another day off tomorrow but I wish I get my energy back the day after cause I must go back to work....

I think it's easy to read articles like this as the govermont only tell us what they want us to know, as it's easy to tell us it's all ok to sort it the quickest way possable as they did with the MMR jab witch do we know if good old Blair ever gave his son the jab as there where good reports about that when it came out in 2000 as I did give it to my son and wish I never did trust what they say sorry I don't think so. So not shore now my son has been offered the swine flu jab if latter will make him Ill.

I rec'd the SF shot 12/9 and 30 hours after the shot I started feeling numbness and tingling. It started in my hands and feet and moves around my body. How long should this side effect last. This side effect is not common knowledge in the states. I am going to see my doc tomorrow as I am concerned it is GBS.

I received the H1N1 vacinne 3 days ago and progressively have been getting more achy and tired feeling without any changes in daily activity. I am working the same number of hours and going to bed and getting up at the same time. First day was just kind of sore feeling...day 2 was sore plus tired...day 3 is sore, tired, aches, and very sleepy...

How long will this continue? How much worse will it get?

I just had the H1N1 Vaccine (shot version) on the 10DEC. Just hours later I got a sore throat and runny nose, along with congestion. I have not gotten sick for over a year and all of a sudden I'm sick right after I get the shot. How wonderful! I have a marathon to run this weekend and I'm afraid this stupid shot may have just ruined it for me.

To Guest who had shot 3 days ago,
Generally most people have symptoms for a few days and they start to feel better. If you are still feeling bad or your symptoms are getting worse, it might be a good idea to go talk to your doctor or visit a clinic.

My 10 yr old daughter had the nasal h1n1 and regular flu shot on 10/28. On 12/04 she became ill with cough, fever, tiredness and nausea. This is the worst sickness she has had, and she has been out of school for two weeks. She has been seen by our doctor, xray, no visible fluid in lungs. She is still has a bad cough. Neither myself or my wife have had any flu vaccinations. I am beginning to think it was a bad idea to have my daughter vaccinated.

I got the h1n1 shot on Monday of this week which was the 15th of Dec. I myself have also experienced the nose bleeding, cough, runny nose/congestion, fatigue, headache, sore thoart, stomach pain, and sneezing. I have not gotten a flu shot before in my life. I also have a very weak immune system. My dr recommanded that I get the shot because if I was to actually get the h1n1 flu that it would most likely kill my within the matter of days. Some people experience the side effects and there are those of us that do. I been in bed since I got my shot. I rather my body builds the antibodies it needs now to fight of the virus for when in if I do get then to try in fight if off with prior expo. As a nuring student don't worry everyone it is completely norm for the body to go thru these changes. Good luck to all and thank u Tamiko for the article.

My 11 month old Son received H1N1 in form of Injection in two dose.
Now he got rash all on his tummy, on head (like dandruff), some pimples on his face and near his private area. During first shot we asked doctor then he said there could be some other allergic reactions. When my son got second shot we saw same issues.
I think our doctor unable to understand the problem. Anybody know how to cure this side effect? Your inputs will be very much appreciated. Please Help!!!!

I had the H1N1 shot on Dec 11. On Dec 22 a few spots appeared on my lower back that looked like insect bites. The next day there were a dozen spots. On Dec 24th there were two discrete patches of spots. On Dec 25 there were now three discrete patches of spots, one on my lower left back, one at my left waist and one on my lower left abdomen. The areas alternated between itching and hurting. The spreading seems to have subsided (today is Dec 27) but the areas are very sensitive to touch and seem to be rather swollen beneath the rash as well.
I don't have any health issues and don't take any medications, so it is suspicious that these rashes may be related to the vaccine.

I had the Swine Flu vaccine 3 days ago. No side effects immediately except for a sore arm. However by the third day, I have extremely sore legs. They ache and become numb. It starts at the top of both legs and shoots down to the feet. Very uncomfortable. My mother also had the injection a few months ago and experienced exactly the same symptoms.

Hi,
My nose had never bleeding before, but after I've get flu vaccine in Hungary (in october 2009), I've experienced unexpected bleeding from my nose more than five times in the last 3 months. Once I've had seen bleeding from rectal area (within two weeks from vaccine but never after). Sorry for posting this, but hope that this information can help somebody. I'm sure that I'll never take flu vaccine again.

I was acting searching the net for that exact same symptom to see if anyone else has had this reaction. I'm a 29 year healthy female. I had my last menstrual 2 weeks ago and never bleed between periods. I was was given the h1n1 shot at 3:30 this afternoon and by 6pm I started spotting. I'm curious if more people have had this as well.

The typical healthy adult only needs to get one needle. And for those who do (like young children), they will likely have less of a reaction with the second shot due to having built up some immunity.

Regarding favism question,
My understanding is that favism is a reaction to broad beans that is genetic in nature. My advice is when in doubt, talk to your doctor to see if there could be a problem with any of the ingredients in the vaccine or regarding this condition when getting it.

My 3yr old daughter had the swine flu vaccination yesterday (Jan 16).

Symptoms following the vaccination
-Loss of appetite
-Fatigue
-Temperature 37.8 (usually 36.4)

Later symptoms
-Rash (not itchy or sore)
-Headache
-Ear ache (Possibly just a really bad headache, she's very sensitive to sounds) she had to be put in a room with no sound at all.
-Temperature 38.8

Spoke to a nurse at the NHS, and she was the 3rd child this week who has a rash that isn't irritating known to this nurse following the vaccination, so it might be a side effect that isn't yet known/listed due to being rare. They are red spots slightly raised, feels more like dry skin than a bumpy rash, and my daughter was unaware of it until I pointed it out. She still isn't bothered about it, so I am not worrying too much, just keeping an eye on it,

I had the h1N1 nasal spray and the regular flu shot last Thursday. I did not have any side effects about 6 days. But last evening , all of a sudden I had a bad headache and started vomiting.
I got scearred. I did not have any fever , I did not have any flu like symptoms at all. It was only headache and vomiting. I did not feel dizzy either.
anhyway, I called my doctor's office. After asking all sorts of questions, they said that it is either migrene or a bad stomach virus and will go away by itself in a day. They did not think that it was a side efefct of the H1N1 vaccine. Because it was after 6 days.
It went away this , I was able to eat and did not throw up, I don't have any headaches. It probably was migrane. Allthough I suffer from migrene , I never threw up before, so I don't know. I still think that it may be related to the h1N1 vaccine, Did anyone have vomiting and headache symptoms after the vaccine and if they did, how long after was it and how long did it stay?

I am 40 years old with no health issues and have never had a flu shot (seasonal or otherwise). I got both the season and the H1N1 flu shots this year (3 months apart) because I am a nursing student. I had no problems with the seasonal flu vaccine but I think I may have had a reaction to the H1N1. I received the H1N1 at 3:30 p.m. and by the next day, my eyes became red and watery that progressed to swelling to include my lips. My breathing was never affected and the swelling went down by the next day but was still noticeable. Could this have been a side effect? It did not happen immediately (it took almost 6-8 hours to occur) so I wasn't sure if it was cause or coincidence (although I do not have allergies).

I am really worried about this and just want to know cud this be one of the side effects of this vaccine as well, or our own case is just an unusuall one?

I had the H1N1 vaccine last Friday and then the next day came down with a terrible cold with flu symptoms (body aches, bed sweats / headaches / sore throat / sneezing / coughing / nasal secretion / upset stomach etc). I have been keeping an eye on my temperature (around 98-99) so I do not think that it is swine flu but could this bad cold/flu be a result of the injection? I felt fine prior to having it. I have had to stay home from work. Should I check with the docor to rule out swine flu?

If it is not possible to get the flu from the flu shot than why is it you develop symptoms of the flu
Headache
Fatigue for several days after
Fever
Muscle aches
Nausea
Redness, soreness, swelling or tenderness near injection site
Fainting (mainly with teens)

My 15 month baby got a H1N1 shot Nov 24th and by Nov 28th I rushed him in to the urgent care with a rash covering his entire body, they said is was part of a virus he was getting over or my laundry detergent, but since he wasn't itching at the time it was probably just the virus and not to do anything, I mentioned the shot but they said it had nothing to do with it. It eventually when away for the most part then two weeks later he broke out in bumps the were itching and he starting itching him self bloody and i rushed him in again and they glanced at him and said scabies, so we treated him for scabies and washed everything and it didn't make it any better it just kept getting worse, no one else in the family was having this problem, then i took him in to a different doctor and he said dermatitis and we lotioned him up and kept him moisturized, by this time it had been 6 weeks or so, then we came back in a week and it was not getting any better and he looked like he had chicken pocks, so then he put him on oral steroids and a cream, after the first 3 days on the oral he seemed to be getting a little better and then we had to start weaning him off and then the progress stopped and started getting worse, i kept reminding him about his swine flu shot but he said it had nothing to do with this, so then we went to a dermatologist and they couldn't diagnose it by looking at it, they were trying to tell me it’s a bug bite reactions, like i had bed bugs or fleas, and i know for a fact i don’t, so that is ruled out, i even triple checked and had other people come and check, so they took the biopsy and said its a reaction to some sort of bite they think that could have happened a months ago, but they couldn't pin point the problem, i told them about the shot and they said no it wasn't that. So now it is Feb and my son it covered from head to toe in soars that itch like crazy and bleed, we have to keep him covered and he is scaring up. He had never had a reaction to any bug bite before the shot! I know deep down it is the shot! these bumps start out like skin colored bumps and some fluid filled and he scratches and they turn red the eventually break open and he also has dry rash patches to come and go too.. Anyone else have this problem, They have him on HYDROXYZIN to help the itching. Its not getting better! :(

I had the Swine Flu Shot about 2 months ago. I have C.O.P.D. and I am a 41 year old male. I had a sinus infection at the time that I took the Flu shot. My doctor put me on an antibiotic that same day and I took it for about 10 days. After I got home that day I started sweating for no reason. I had stomach trouble for about 2 weeks also. These sweats have not stopped to this day. I came down with a bad case of Bronchitis that lasted about 6 weeks. Now I am over the Bronchitis and I am still having the Cold sweats. I have never had cold sweats like this before. My temp is 96.8 somewhere near that, every time that I check it. My temp has never run that low for this amount of time. The sweats are getting to where they are irritating me. I can dry myself off and it does not help at all. During the night I will wake up to my bed being so wet that I have to move to the other side and get a fresh blanket. I have started sleeping with towels wrapped around myself.

Could this possibly be a side affect from the Swine Flu shot? Has anyone else had these kinds of problems? I can't understand what else that it could be. I haven't talked to my doctor about these symptoms yet because I have not been back since the 4 times that I seen him last month and the month before. Those visits were for the Bronchitis. Just to make something clear. I have had this C.O.P.D. for years. (Never have smoked. Worked with paints in the military that had Chromium 6 in it.) I have never had problems with cold sweats before.

I received the Swine Flu Vaccine back on November 16 shorty after I had nausea and light headiness..That night I developed leg twitches..tingiling and numbess in the hands and feet. A week later developed a bad cough which I still slightly have. I was back and forth to the doctor for about 2 months..They put me on diff. steriods, antibiotics, nasal sprays, anti acid meds...Finally I think they got sick of seeing me and put me on aniexty medication. I have now switched my doctor. I know this is from the shot. So far all my blood work has came back ok. CT,EKG,Chest xray all came out ok. I was a healthy 24 yr old before this shot. Then I developed these symptoms right after. Now I'm having a MRI done on the 2nd of April and My new doctor is having me see an ENT.. Funny how I was perfectly healthy until this dumb shot. My 4yr daughter and I recieved this together. She has been fine.. She's had her initial shot, and her booster. I also have a 6 month old which is now old enough for the shot, But I'm not sure if she will receive it or not

The vaccination is not at all good. I am very healthy person. But after vaccination it is not the case. I would have preferred to choose die by swine flu not by vaccination.

Every time I eat egg or and very little chicken or fish ( the list not finalised...it is keep growing), my nose starts running. You cant control anything, just it drops , drops drops, ........

Then once the full food is gone out of the system(max 2 days) I come to normal.

I'm not sure if it's related but this has never happened to me before taking the vaccination and it's not in something I have recently consumed.

I felt the heat came from my feet and burning. Also, once in a while I get the hypes with the redness around my skin. 3 weeks ago, I feel under my breast that it hurt really bad. Do you think this is the cause of the side effects? A month ago, my mom had the tingly on her face also. So I brought her to the Emergency room at the hospital to test them and she was fine, but I'm still worried about myself because I have hepattis B and this symtom might collapse my lungs and maybe kill me since I have hepattis B. So I need some recommendations of what to do.

My daughter was mandated to receive the H1N1 shot in order to enter an RN program. Shortly after the shot she struggled with symptoms that include dizziness, inability to hold down food, diarrhea, headaches from back of neck radiating over head, optical nerve deficiency (cannot open eye, when she does, light forces eye shut), weakness, back inflamed and extremely sensitive to touch, and essentially manifested symptomology of Guillain-Barré Syndrome. She was hospitalized and physicians were stumped. When we suggested H1N1 we were strongly rebuffed and immediately told H1N1 does not have reactions of this nature. Then the physicians said it was all in her head. We took her to a specialist out of the area in neurology. They seemed intrigued with the idea of GBS and H1N1 reaction but quickly discount it. Instead they chose to put her on an antidepressant which has been fruitless. This was December 2009, and now it is November 2010, and whenever she makes progress, then relapse occurs. She has lost about 80% of her life at this point. She is in pain all the time and still struggles to open one eye. It is almost as though physicians don’t want anything to do with her situation once they learn her sequella was post-H1N1 shot. She needs help. Any suggestions?

I had the H1N1 a month ago. 4 days after getting the "three flu shots in one" at the VA, I became totally fatigued, (I have fybromyalgia also, from the military vacines, three months after getting the barrage of them, I got fybromyalgia ~spreading all over for the last 22 years. I thought my new flare-up being just a reaction to the H1N1 causing me to flare up with major fatigue. But when I got the every day gut ache I remembered the H1N1 I got last year ..having the same gut ache for 4-5 months, and knew what had caused it then, and now! The gut ach hasn't gone away and is worse than last year!
Not only do I have the gut problem (burnning in my intestines in the 5AM hours, and sometimes an all over intestine irritation, that will sometimes go away for awhile after I eat something, or sometimes cause even more problems) bit I have has a totall fybromyalgia flare-up for the last month, in my back, shoulders, neck joints all over. And my arthritis in my back and neck has gone crazy stiff unable to move pain, unable to get out of bed. It, has finally calmed! But the gut, intestines HASN'T!!!

I am a Suite101 writer who has been perusing health articles related to flu vaccination.

I feel fortunate to still be visiting this site, because I was in a hospital for three days after the seasonal flu-H1N1 combination that I received from my doctor.

I received the shot one afternoon in early November. I went home and felt nothing wrong. At about 8 o'clock that evening, I was making dinner at home and chatting on the phone with my mother. Out of nowhere, a feeling of nausea came over me, my chest tightened up, and I began feeling dizzy. In a moment or two, I passed out. I regained consciousness after a few seconds, lying flat on my kitchen floor.

Luckily, I didn't hurt myself in the fall, but I began having heart palpitations. Flu-like symptoms came over me and for a few hours, I experienced sweating, a mild fever, nausea, and unsteady legs.

The flu-like symptoms went away, but the palpitations remained. I thought they were a reaction to the shot that would pass, but they never left me. As I found out later, my heart was fibrillating - the upper portion of my heart was beating at three times the rate of the lower portion. Not enough blood was reaching my brain, so every time I had to walk uphill or do anything with the slightest physical strain, I would begin feeling dizzy and have to drop to my knees. This happened twice in the street, including once when I was commuting to work.

After a week of this, my doctor diagnosed me with the fibrillation and sent me to the emergency room. I was committed and given a cardioversion to synchronize the upper heart with the lower. My pulse was through the roof before this correction, but my blood pressure was oddly normal. I was an in-patient for three days, getting one test after another. They tested my blood and urine, they CAT-scanned me, they EKG'd me, they did everything short of skinning me alive, but all of the tests showed NOTHING - I was told that I'm in great shape and could go back to whatever lifestyle I had. I was only blood thinners for three weeks and have since changed to aspirin.

I am still not 100% better. I can go on long walks, lift things of moderate weight, and climb stairs very easily, but I am still overwhelmed with anxiety whenever I have to go out in public and it often feels as if I've pulled a muscle in my chest - which I don't really understand. My pulse is normal and other than anxiety, I'm not feeling any of the symptoms I did originally.

I feel that I got away with murder. What could this shot have done to a person of my age with serious health problems? I was in perfect health before this, only to find myself on a stretcher in a New York City hospital, taking one injection after another and undergoing one test after another while my parents waited (I'm their only child - do you know what they went through?). None of these doctors raised the slightest possibility of the shot being the cause...yet it was never dropped from their explanations of what happened.

A fringe writer once called it 'murder by injection.' I'm beginning to see why...

The situation I am writing about is anecdotal. I'm only one person among many. But there is no way I could support a friend or relative getting any flu vaccination, unless their health is fragile and contracting the flu could be life-threatening. Other than a dislike of being sick, I don't know what I was thinking when I took this injection. I've heard people say that you would have to be an idiot to get this shot. Well, guess what? YOU'RE LOOKING AT AN IDIOT RIGHT HERE!

Hello Tamiko
I have had the flu jab in November for the last two years at around the same date. I did not have any immediate reactions but after about two weeks in both years I did not feel quite well. I had little energy and this progressed until the day after boxing day when in both 2009 and this year I became quite ill, high temperature, diarrhoea and mild sickness. Maybe it has nothing to do with the jab but it seems strange that it has followed exactly the same path both years

Sincerely
Norma Downing

I would like to find a forum where people are discussing the adverse reactions they experienced after the vaccine. I had one a year ago while pregnant with a young child at home and being a front line healthcare worker it was strongly recommended. I had my reservations but got caught up in all the promotion and went against my better judgment. Immediately following I became extremely ill, symptoms were; fever 101-103.9 lasting for approximately 3 days, severe muscle aches and pains, chronic fatigue and decreased urination. After 3 months of experiencing this on approximately a bi-weekly basis I went to my dr and said I felt like I was having a reaction to the vaccine. He said it sounded like my kidneys were shutting down and ran some tests. I assumed all was well because I didn't hear anything back and my symptoms decreased. About 1 year after the vaccine I started to feel a little "off" again and thought my sugars could be irregular so I went back to the dr for a check up, he ran some tests and gave me a diagnosis of "Graves Disease". This is an auto-immune disorder believed to be caused by a "virus or bacteria" that gets into the system and causes the body to create auto-antibodies that attack the thyroid gland causing it to produce excess amounts of thyroxin, creating a hole host of metabolic and physical symptoms. I am looking for anyone out there that may have had a similar experience or side-effect. My name is Julie Veinot and I can be found on facebook, I look forward to hearing your experiences.
