Stuck indoors this winter? Why not feel festive this holiday season by making these sweet and simple Christmas decorations with the kids.
Create Candy Cane Heart Decorations
Buy a box of mini and/or regular-sized candy canes. Make mini hearts with the mini candy canes by simply putting the ends of two canes together until they touch. It should be done so that the top of each candy cane, the hook part, is facing inwards on both sides so that the top ends touch. Then simply tape them together. Use a piece of ribbon to make a loop and hang them on trees, or around the neck of a wine bottle for some Christmas fun. They can also be taped on to a gift as a decoration. Do the same process with regular-sized candy canes as well.
Make Candy Cane Reindeer Decorations
Candy canes, some pipe cleaners, googly eyes and red and black puffy poms are all that are needed. Ideally, get white or brown pipe cleaners, as they will be making the antlers of the candy cane reindeer. Christmas colors like red and green will also work. Get a piece about seven centimeters long and wrap it evenly around the top of the hook of the candy cane. Cut two two-centimeter pieces to make extensions on the antlers. The hook of the candy cane is the face, so glue on two googly eyes and a red or black puffy pom for the nose. Another option is to draw on the nose with a red or black felt and/or draw on the eyes as well.
Give Friends and Family Scratch-and-Win Ticket Christmas Decorations
This is a simple decoration, but it’s a big hit with the potential to give a friend or family member a chance to win millions ( at least the dream of it!). During the holiday season, there are scratch-and-win tickets that are in holiday themes and shapes. All that is needed is a hole puncher to put a hole in the top and some festive ribbon to loop through and tie up. Then hang the scratch-and-win ticket on a tree or hang it off a gift.
Kids Will Enjoy Making Pinecone Tree Decorations
Go for a walk in a park and collect some pinecones, then give them some time to dry out. Get the kids to paint them green and let dry. Then use odds and ends like small beads, buttons, tin foil rolled into balls and/or puffy poms as “decorations” on the tree. Cut out a yellow star to glue on as the star on the top of the pinecone tree. Another option is to buy glow in the dark stars and put them on the top of the “tree”. Use a piece of wire looped near the top to hang the decoration.
Easy-to-Make Pinecone Friend Decorations
Another fun option with the pinecones is to leave them au naturel and simply make funny faces on them. Simply glue on some googly eyes and a puffy pom as a nose. Use pink or red construction paper to cut out different mouths. If there are no googly eyes in the house, make some out of paper and simply glue them on. To make a Santa pinecone, get a cotton ball and rip off bits to create a beard and moustache – simply glue the cotton “hair” on. Toothpicks can also be used to make arms and legs.
These are easy and fun decorations for the whole family and also be a great activity when Hosting a Christmas Party for Kids.
